Ghost Nation
Ghost Nation is a band that has gained recognition for their distinctive fusion of modern alternative rock, dark pop, electronic rock. Their music is characterized by a dark and cinematic sound, incorporating elements of electronic, rock and pop to create a unique and diverse sound. The band's sound has been described as reminiscent of Muse, Awolnation, and Imagine Dragons.
The driving force behind the Swedish group Ghost Nation is powered by the guitarist and vocalist Tomas Vasseur, from Katrineholm, and producer Micke Berg from Stockholm. Both trained music producers with pop music as their common foundation.
Together with their own experiences and their diverse backgrounds in music, they bring a melting pot of exciting musical angles. Micke brings his diverse background in electronic, pop, and EDM and Tomas brings influences from both classical and hard rock.
One significant factor that contributes to Ghost Nation's musical style and direction is the fact that both are trained music producers. This gives them tools with greater ability to experiment with different sounds and techniques, allowing them to bring a unique and sophisticated approach to their compositions. Overall, their unique background and as music producers, plays a significant role in shaping the music that Ghost Nation creates.
Freedom of creation has always been important to Ghost Nation. Both in terms of genres and textually. In fact, the name Ghost Nation itself is an expression of being a nation of their own where they can create and do whatever they want with their music. No boundaries in music and genres. Where they can create and have fun with whatever comes to mind in the moment.
Despite the desire for freedom in creation, there are more things that are recurring. One thing that often comes up in some form is the penchant for the melancholic. A form of Nordic Noir. This darkness can be seen in their "dark and cinematic" sound, which blends alternative, gritty pop with elements of rock, heavy metal, and electronic, pop, and EDM. Something that also spills over from the private to the music making is the emotional struggles that Micke has faced with depression and anxiety, which in its best moments can actually be a force in creation.
Ghost Nation's songs, including "Turn Off The Lights," "Your Final Kill," and "Unforgiven," have achieved widespread success on viral Spotify lists, with "Turn Off The Lights" starting the viral journey in 2018. "Unforgiven" has also been successful on YouTube, with over 1 million views as of May 13th, 2022 and over 2 million views as of October 29, 2022. Ghost Nation's music has been played on streaming platforms in over 100 countries, with a total of over 6 million streams to date.
