Permanent Maniac - GRAE

We say

Toronto-based singer/multi-instrumentalist GRAE first burst onto the scene in late spring last year with a flurry of singles, culminating in the excellently titled New Girl EP. It was around the time of the second single Your Hands that we fell in love with her sassy, orchestrated sounds, which reminded us of her fellow Canadian Feist but with a modern twist. She quickly gained the praise of tastemakers like Billboard, Line of Best Fit, Flaunt, Wonderland, Colours, Complex, Purple, Ladygunn, Bizzare, Exclaim, Indie88 and many others. Alongside this, she has had support at Spotify and Apple Music, won the SOCAN ‘Young Canadian Songwriters Award’ and been synced to numerous US TV shows (Nancy Drew, Queen Sugar, LA’s Finest). At the end of August, she released her second EP Permanent Maniac, a compilation of her recent singles and this gorgeous love letter to Robert Smith of the Cure. It’s her best yet; a sonic earworm about unrequited love, backed by some lush, shoegaze guitar lines and a carefree nature that would make anyone swoon. Quite simply, marvellous. One to watch.
