Changing - Sfven

We say

Regular readers will know of our admiration for emerging bedroom pop maestro Sfven from our previous RotD’s, but for those of you who haven’t seen them, you are in for a real treat with Changing. Written while he was finishing up his music production studies in Leeds, the track is an absolute delight, thanks to its thumping hook, timeless melody progressions and breezy, forward-thinking production. Spotify UK, Apple Music (20 countries inc. UK), Amazon Music and Deezer UK all fell for its charm and added it to their new release programming this week, alongside radio support from Jack Saunders at Radio 1. You can watch the amusing accompanying video of the multi-instrumentalist and producer desperately seeking fresh eggs here. With its tale of change and moving on, backed by its slightly quirky sound and infectious nature, it’s the kind of track we can easily see being picked up for sync on something like Netflix’s Sex Education TV series or other teen dramas. All in all, a gloriously witty indie-pop earworm.

Sad Summer

Ronnie Watts

W!ZARD Talent

Released: Single: 17 July/EP: Late September
Sad Summer - Ronnie Watts

We say

American artist Ronnie Watts has spent most of her youth honing her songwriting skills, building a recording studio in her basement in Rochester, New York, and journaling her heartbreak through a lens of pop music. Earlier this year she released her first record for W!ZARD Talent, the piano-based ballad Famous In California, which has so far amassed over 250k streams. She followed it up with the poppy Break Your Heart and recently dropped this, her latest single, documenting her heartbreak during the summer of 2019. Bridging 1989-era Taylor Swift with tinges of Lorde and Halsey, Sad Summer is a lush alt-pop affair written by Ronnie and produced Harper James. It quickly found support at Deezer with additions to their Brand New UK and Pop Fresh playlists, along with support from Popjustice, Skope Magazine and other online blogs. She performed on #TogetherAtHome live stream with Global Citizen in support of the World Health Organisation, and is now preparing her debut EP, full of tales of youthful bliss and teenage angst, for release this September. A new alt-pop star in the making.
